Wine&Siena 2024: when playing at home, it is impossible to miss!

Over 100 companies, 500 labels in the unparalleled setting of Santa Maria della Scala.

It was a two-day event that I experienced intensely, on Saturday with dear friend and Donna del Vino Federica Cecchi and her wine friends and on Sunday with those who have long supported and endured me in my tasting missions.

Among the findings: Pakravan Papi in Riparbella on the Tuscan coast with Federica Filippone, whom I introduced to the Tuscan delegation of the national association Le Donne del Vino and Uvamatris beautiful reality of Monferrato at the second and third generation of the Ronchi family with a beautiful classic method from nebbiolo.

Two Masterclasses I had the pleasure of attending in the prestigious ballroom of the Grand Hotel Continental:

  • Art in amphora: secrets and wonders of winemaking and aging in history into the future by Helmut Koecher
  • Bubbles of Italy: a sensory journey through the excellence of Italian bubbles by FIS delegate Paolo Cepollaro

The amphora masterclass was a true cultural-historical journey shared with Federica Cecchi that Helmut took us on from its beginnings in Armenia over 6,000 years ago.

A journey that unfolded through the telling and tasting of eleven wines from various Italian regions, a tale that remains in the memory when it is the producer himself who tells it, as in the case of our friend Marco Capitoni with his Troccolone 2022, Orcia Sangiovese DOC.

The masterclass on Italian bubbles was a shared experience with friend and colleague Elisa Romei: Franciacorta, Oltrepò and Alta Langa, three important regions for Italian classic methods.

Among them I was struck by Uva Matris with an Alta Langa from nebbiolo, one of the many fine Italian family stories told by the third generation of the family.
