Wine&Siena - Masterpieces of Taste IV edition!
Wonderful to catch up with journalist friends, producers, sommeliers and winelovers old and new, wine women from all over the world with whom to exchange a tip and make a toast!
On the first fantastic day the masterclass on gewürtztraminer given by Helmuth Köcher e Masiello Nicholas: I had the opportunity to appreciate the various nuances of this varietal, the so-called "spiced thermeno," of Alsatian origin that has a kinship with sauvignon blanc. A difficult vine that is cultivated in guyot, whose grapes are harvested before ripening to preserve acidity.
Here are the labels in the tasting:
- Weingut Ritterhof: 2017 Auratus Gewürztraminer Alto Adige - Südtirol DOC, tropical fruitiness with notes of lychee and with floral fragrances of rose petal and geranium.
- Elena Walch: 2017 Gewürztraminer Vigna Kastelaz Alto Adige - Südtirol DOC, fruity with iodine note, fine and elegant. You can feel the feminine touch!
- Castelfeder: 2017 Gewürztraminer Von Lehm Alto Adige - Südtirol DOC, fruity, hints of musk on the nose
- Weinbergohof Bellutti: 2017 Gewürztraminer Plon Alto Adige - Südtirol DOC, floral with hint of rose, nice freshness
- Kellerei Tramin: 2017 Gewürztraminer Nussbaumer Alto Adige - Südtirol DOC, elegant and fine on the nose, balanced in the mouth
- Schreckbichl-Colterenzio: 2017 Gewürztraminer Lafoa Alto Adige - Südtirol DOC
- Baron Longo: 2016 Hohenstein Alto Adige - Südtirol DOC
- J. Hofstätter Estate: 2016 Kolbenhof vineyard Gewürztraminer Alto Adige - Südtirol DOC, historic pinot noir winery, a fruity, floral wine with great minerality
Over all for me Elena Walch e Weingut Hofstätter!
The second day of Wine & Siena 2018 Masterpieces Of Taste was spent between the Rock and the Continental with visits to two companies in Women of Wine of Tuscany, Tanya Poggio of Poggio al Moro, which let me taste its fresh and pleasant white and rosé, while Diana D'Isanto, daughter of Antonella D'Isanto de I Balzini Winery, he let me taste his interesting IGP from sangiovese and mammolo.
The Continental could not miss the stop at Ines Giovanett by Castelfeder Wines, who let me taste pinot blanc, the award-winning Burgum Novum 2015 and Mosel Riesling, telling me the beautiful story of the project. Finally of the Masi Farm I tasted organic Tuscan and Amarone with its reserve.
A consolidating event, a diverse, curious and interested audience: kudos to the organizers from Helmuth Köcher a Andrea Vanni And to their team!
Until next year!!!
Cheers! 🥂
